Thigh Liposuction

Thigh Liposuction

Whether fat on the thighs is so obvious that it is labeled as saddlebags or it just makes the thighs appear slightly out of balance with the rest of the body, thigh liposuction can resolve the situation. Thigh liposuction only takes a couple of hours, but during this time, the physician can remove ten liters of fat.

The procedure begins with an injection or two of lidocaine or other numbing agent administered only to the area of the thigh being treated. Once the skin is numb, the doctor will make several small incisions through the skin. These serve as portals to insert a cannulla, which is attached to a pump that works to vacuum fat from the thighs. Since the patient is usually not under the effects of a general anesthetic, he or she is able to respond to the surgeon during the procedure if necessary.

It is necessary to arrange for someone to transport the patient home after a thigh liposuction procedure, but generally recovery takes less than a month. The two small cuts made by the surgeon should heal within two days, although they may drain during that time because stitches are rarely used. A compression garment is recommended for at least a week after surgery, and suitable pain medications may be prescribed although acetaminophen may be all that is needed after the first few days. Patients are often allowed to shower the day following surgery and often return to their jobs within three days. Usually the outer thighs heal much faster than the inner thighs because of the friction associated with walking and other activities.

Thigh liposuction is considered by many to be a surgical procedure used predominantly by females, but it is just as effective on men. This procedure can eliminate the appearance of cellulite and contour the thigh area to a more pleasing shape. Thigh liposuction is sometimes used after weight loss in conjunction with a thigh or buttocks lift to tighten the skin.

As with any surgery, some risks are connected with thigh liposuction. These include the usual slight risk of infection and blood clots. Excessive bleeding is possible but unlikely due to the small size of the incisions. All patients have some swelling, bruising and discoloration for a period of time. Most experience some soreness or discomfort in the treatment area from two weeks to a month; however, doctors encourage patients to get plenty of light exercise during the recovery period.

Anyone over the age of eighteen who is uncomfortable with the amount of fat concentrated in the area of the leg just above the knees is a candidate for thigh liposuction. This procedure can be done on people of all nationalities who desire to give their bodies more symmetry. After healing is complete, those who have undergone thigh liposuction report that their clothes fit better, and they feel more confident in fashionable styles. Thigh liposuction often improves confidence and gives the patient more poise and assurance in their social circles.
