Male Liposuction

Some men and women carry their weight in disproportionate fatty deposits that make clothing difficult to find and make their shape appear unbalanced. For these people who were born with a genetic tendency to carry their weight in several specific areas, surgical liposuction may be helpful in correcting this problem and re-contouring the body. During surgical liposuction, the doctor may perform one area or as many as three areas of the body at once. If one area is scheduled, a local anesthetic will probably be used, but if several large areas are involved the patient may desire to have general anesthesia during surgical liposuction.

Surgical liposuction can be performed on almost any section of the body, but the hips, stomach, thighs, and buttocks are the most common procedures chosen by patients. This type of surgery can also be used to eliminate double chins, remove fatty deposits around the knee, and slim the ankles. During the surgical liposuction, doctors will use a hollow instrument attached to a vacuum to suck away fat cells. After recovery, patients will have lost inches in the area treated because of the removal of fat cells which should never return; however, they should still control their diet and exercise consistently to prevent gaining weight in other areas of the body.

Recovery after surgical liposuction depends on the amount of fat removed during the procedure and the size of the affected area. After some surgical liposuction procedures patients return to normal activities within days, but others require several weeks for complete recovery. Doctors will guide patients through the recovery process after surgical liposuction by providing instructions and pain medications as needed and may even work some patients on a financing plan to make the liposuction easily affordable.
